I've got a few:
If you want to read an awesome book about the history of New Music in Canada (i.e. 1980-1997 or so) try to find "Have Not Been The Same - The CanRock Renaissance" by Michael Barclay, Ian Rock and Jason Schneider. I think it might be out of print but if you can find it, it is awesome.

On A Cold Road by Dave Bidini of the Rheostatics is a great book about the band from the perspective of their Canadian Tour as openers for The Tragically Hip in 1997 or so.

Shakey is a great Neil Young biography which was authorized until Neil had a falling out with the author. It is very insightful and interesting.

Across The Great Divide - The Band across America - is an interesting look a the career of The Band. The author is clearly not a fan of Robbie Robertson as a person but the book is interesting.

Alan Cross (from CFNY) had two books that were interesting - One was called The Alternative Music Almanac and the other is called Over The Edge.

Thank you for the suggestions! I've been meaning to find a good book on the Canadian 80s music scene. There was this one book that came out a few years ago that talked about the scene in Toronto but I can't remember the title or author..hmm

It was probably Have Not Been The Same - it touched on just about every band from the mid 80s on, big and small. From The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir to The Tragically Hip. It didn't really deal too much with New Wave, though.
Here is an amazon link

give it a try. Seriously, it is the most informative book on Canadian music I have ever seen. It runs about 700pages.

I like to read entertainment business books. I've read biographies of John Candy, Michael Ovitz, one about SCTV by Dave Thomas, Autobiographies of Michael J fox and Mickey Dolenz, I can't remember them all. Music wise I have read biographies of Abba, Fleetwood Mac, I forge tthem all, A few about Rush and Pink Floyd that I have not got to yet. It's almost the only type of books I read.
